Has BateWorld been hacked?

We work as hard as we can to make sure that any personal information (other than what is shown publicly on a user’s profile) is always protected. What we can’t protect against is common scams and attempts at extortion that may make it seem like a hacker gained information from our site.

So called “sextortion” scams arrive via email and explain (usually in broken English) how someone has allegedly gained control of a webcam and recorded a user in compromising situations while visiting adult websites. If the hacker isn’t paid (often a strange and uneven dollar amount, often in bitcoin), they will supposedly release the video to everyone on the user’s contact list.

That sounds quite scary, until you realize how truly commonplace these scams are. (Both the UK and New Zealand have been investigating such scams for years). And once you’ve ignored your first one, it gets easier and easier to mark them all as spam and move on. These emails aren’t connected to adult websites or a user’s browsing history and are sent to anyone who has an email address, with the hope someone will feel they’ve been “caught,” and pay up.

Three quick tips for sextortion emails:

  1. NEVER click any links in the body of the email, visit any sites listed, or reply to the sender, under any circumstances.
  2. NEVER send money or attempt to share any kind of payment information with a bitcoin wallet or PayPal address displayed in the email.

How do I unblock someone?

There are two ways to unblock another member.

If you know their username, go to their profile page. Under their profile picture select Unblock this Person from the menu.

You can also navigate to My Profile. From the dropdown menu click Privacy Settings. A new window will appear showing all your privacy settings. The first thing you will see is your Blocked List. Select the member username that you wish to unblock and click the X next to their username. Make sure to scroll to the bottom of the page and save your update by clicking the Save Changes button.  

Can I get my private information deleted after Verification?

You can request that VerifyMyContent delete all the information you used to get verified. It’s pretty straightforward. All you have to do is send them an email at [email protected]. They will ask you a couple of questions to match you with your data, and then permanently delete it from their system.

How to make a Group Private.

Navigate to the My Profile tab at the top of your homepage. In the drop down menu click on My Groups. A new page will appear listing all of your Groups. Navigate to the group you want to make private and click Edit Group. 

A new page will appear titled Edit Group. Click on the Group Settings Tab, and navigate to Who Can See This Group. Click the bubble next to Only Group Members. 

Click the Save Changes button.

Now your group is only visible to you and your group members.

How do I block someone?

Click on My Profile at the top of your page. From the dropdown menu select Account Settings. A new page will appear with several options. Click on the Privacy tab to open your Privacy Settings. The first thing you will see is the Block List section. Just the yellow Add New Person link. When the text box appears input the Username of the person you want to block. Scroll down and click the black Save Changes button.

You can also block another user by navigating to his profile page. Just below his Profile Pic you will see several text links in yellow. Click on Block this person. The member is now added to your Blocked List.

How can I make my profile private?

Premium members can make their profiles private.

Navigate to the My Profile tab at the top of your homepage. In the drop-down menu click on Account Settings. A new page will appear titled Account Settings. Click on the Privacy tab. Here you can customize your privacy settings. To make your profile only visible to friends, click the bubble next to Only My Friends. You can also select which activities you want to make private.

Make sure to click on Save Changes to save your new settings in the system.

Is my information kept private?

Absolutely. We do not share any personally identifying information about you to any third party.

How do I set up or change my email notifications?

Navigate to the My Profile tab at the top of your browser window. A drop down menu will appear. Select Account Settings. The Account Settings window will appear. Just below your Username and Timezone you will see Email Notifications followed by a list of notification parameters. You’ll notice boxes with check marks to the left of notification topics. To stop email notifications for any topic just uncheck the box to the left of that topic.

Remember to click Save Changes at the bottom of your screen when you’re finished.
